Decluttering will change your life!

Something I tell almost all of the homeowners I meet, is that they need to “declutter”. They need to be ruthless and get rid of items that take up space in their homes, items that prevent buyers from walking up to a window, that fill up closets and basements, bookshelves that are too full, cabinets that are spilling with unused items, and the list goes on. Clutter dates a home, it makes it look dirty and generally not cared for. I see it over and over again in the consultations I do. It’s something that is a constant in almost every home I visit. Clients are overwhelmed and stressed by the amount of clutter they have accumulated. They have to sift through years of collections and decide what to donate, and what to give to family or throw out.

Decluttering and organizing a home can be a daunting task but it can be tackled in a methodical way so that people can do it at their own pace, put their house in order and no longer feel that it is just too much to handle. Why not make sure your home makes you feel happy before you want to sell?

I would highly recommend the book, The life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo, to help you get rid of excess clutter in your home whether you are moving or staying right where you are. It’s an excellent book that asserts that once you clear the clutter from your home, you will live a happier, more satisfying life. She gives specific instructions on tackling your closets, and the various other areas of your home. Her main idea rests with the notion that if you surround yourself with things you truly love, things that mean something to you and make you happy, you too will feel happier and more fulfilled. You will spend far less time tidying as the clutter will be gone entirely and you can spend your free time doing exactly what you enjoy doing.

“When you put your house in order, you put your affairs in order and your past in order, too. As a result, you can see quite clearly what you need in life and what you don’t , and what you should and shouldn’t do.” See the video below for more information on her book.  Start your decluttering journey today and change your life.
